“…love your neighbor as yourself.”

What is Meals on Wheels?
Meals on Wheels is a ministry provided by the families of Harvest Community Church to provide meals to families in temporary need. We commonly support families with newborns or significant medical issues. Usually meals are provided six days a week (no Sundays) for one or two weeks.

How can I help?
Consider signing up on our master list. This is not a commitment to provide a meal, but indicates your willingness to deliver a meal at a later time. You can do this by signing up at the Information Center, or by contacting the coordinator, or on the Harvest web site (coming soon). When a need arises, the coordinator will create a signup sheet. Depending on the timing, we’ll place this at the Information Center in the atrium on Sunday. Please look for the Meals on Wheels sign every Sunday – you never know when a need will arise. If the need arises during the week, or if not all spots get filled on Sunday, the coordinator will call people who are on the master list. You are under no obligation to provide a meal when we call, but if you are able, you will bless a family in need.

What can I bring?
What do you like to cook? When you agree to provide a meal, we’ll notify you about the number of people you will be feeding, and any food allergies or special diets that you need to be aware of. We do recommend that you avoid very spicy foods, or anything that looks like it might still be alive. If you’re short on time, you can even pick up a to-go meal. Please provide a full meal for the family – a main dish and a few sides. You can bring your meal hot and ready to go, or bring it cold and ready for the oven. It’s easier for the recipient if you provide your meal in disposable containers. This eliminates the need to return dishes to their proper owners, and you won’t risk losing anything either. You can find a variety of aluminum cookware in many sizes in most supermarkets and some dollar stores. Ziploc bags work great for salads and cookies. While we are providing meals for people in need, we can usually expect them to have a few basics around the house. So you don’t need to provide condiments like ketchup, salt and pepper, or salad dressing.

How do I deliver my meal?
The coordinator will give you a reminder call the day before you are to provide a meal. You should call the recipient that same day to get directions, and to set up a time to bring the meal. The recipient will be given a list of who’s providing meals, so they won’t be surprised by your call.

What if my family needs meals?
Call the church or the Meals on Wheels coordinator, Jonna Williams, and we’ll get you set up.

Thank you for your help! You are a blessing to those in need!
